LES LIONS ARRACHENT LA VICTOIRE EN PROLONGATION À HAMILTON (41–38)

HAMILTON, 7 Août 25 -Dans un match riche en rebondissements, les BC Lions ont résisté à la pression et se sont imposés 41–38 en prolongation face aux Tiger-Cats, jeudi soir, pour décrocher leur quatrième victoire de la saison.
Nathan Rourke, maître à bord dans les moments cruciaux, a conduit un drive décisif en fin de quatrième quart pour redonner l’avantage aux Lions. Mais Hamilton, accrocheur, a forcé la prolongation grâce au sang-froid de son botteur Marc Liegghio. Finalement, c’est la défense des Lions qui a fait la différence : un fumble provoqué sur Tim White a offert à Sean Whyte l’occasion de sceller le match avec un placement de 20 yards.
Une soirée spéciale… et un Rourke magistral
Le Tim Hortons Field vibrait déjà avant le coup d’envoi avec la présence de la star NBA locale, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, honoré pour sa saison record avec le Thunder d’Oklahoma City. Mais sur le terrain, la vedette s’appelait Nathan Rourke : 408 yards à la passe, deux touchdowns, dont un pour le coureur James Butler et un autre pour le receveur Jevon Cottoy. Butler, ancien Tiger-Cat, a également trouvé la zone payante au sol, tandis que Jeremiah Masoli a ajouté un TD sur course.
Hamilton combat jusqu’au bout
Bo Levi Mitchell a tenu tête avec 305 yards et trois passes de touchdowns, à destination de Shemar Bridges, Kiondré Smith et Jevoni Robinson. Le retourneur Isaiah Wooden a marqué son troisième touchdown sur retour de dégagement cette saison, donnant un élan aux siens dès la première mi-temps. Julian Howsare, avec une interception clé en fin de match, a bien failli offrir la victoire aux Ticats, mais la défense n’a pas pu stopper Rourke dans les dernières secondes.
Un match au scénario fou
BC a ouvert la marque sur un placement de Whyte, mais Hamilton a répondu immédiatement grâce au retour de punt fulgurant de Wooden. Les Lions ont repris l’avantage juste avant la pause, Rourke trouvant Cottoy pour un touchdown de 15 yards, et limitaient alors Hamilton à seulement 60 yards nettes en première mi-temps.
Le troisième quart a vu les attaques se déchaîner : Robinson et Bridges ont marqué pour Hamilton, tandis que Butler répliquait face à son ancienne équipe. Les unités spéciales ont aussi joué un rôle majeur, avec un retour de 82 yards de Seven McGee qui a mené au touchdown au sol de Masoli, suivi d’une conversion à deux points de Riley Pickett.
En fin de rencontre, les coups de pied se sont enchaînés : Whyte et Liegghio ont échangé les avances, avant que Rourke ne délivre une passe de 16 yards à Butler pour reprendre le dessus à 38 secondes du terme (38–35). Mais Mitchell a rapidement replacé son équipe en position de placement, permettant à Liegghio d’égaliser à 38–38 et forcer la prolongation.
La suite est connue : fumble des Ticats, Whyte ne tremble pas, et les Lions repartent de l’Ontario avec un précieux succès.

Les Tiger-Cats se rendront à Regina pour défier les Roughriders le 16 août, tandis que les Lions accueilleront, le même jour, les Alouettes de Montréal.
BC LIONS EDGE TIGER-CATS IN OVERTIME THRILLER (41–38)
HAMILTON, August 7, 2025 – In a game packed with drama, the BC Lions held their nerve and came away with a 41–38 overtime victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Thursday night, securing their fourth win of the season.
Nathan Rourke, calm and decisive in the clutch, engineered a late fourth-quarter drive to put the Lions ahead. But Hamilton, refusing to back down, forced overtime thanks to the poise of kicker Marc Liegghio. In the extra frame, the Lions’ defense delivered the decisive blow – forcing a fumble on Tim White – to set up Sean Whyte’s game-winning 20-yard field goal.
A special night… and a masterclass from Rourke
Tim Hortons Field was buzzing even before kickoff with hometown NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander being celebrated for his record-breaking season with the Oklahoma City Thunder. But on the field, the spotlight belonged to Rourke, who threw for 408 yards and two touchdowns – one to running back James Butler and another to receiver Jevon Cottoy. Butler, facing his former team, also scored on the ground, while backup quarterback Jeremiah Masoli added a rushing major.
Hamilton battles to the end
Bo Levi Mitchell kept his team in the fight with 305 passing yards and three touchdown strikes to Shemar Bridges, Kiondré Smith, and Jevoni Robinson. Return specialist Isaiah Wooden found the end zone on a punt return for the third time this season, sparking the home crowd in the first half. Defensive lineman Julian Howsare added a key late interception, but Hamilton’s defense couldn’t stop Rourke in the closing seconds.
A wild, back-and-forth affair
BC opened the scoring with a Whyte field goal, only for Hamilton to respond immediately with Wooden’s explosive punt return. The Lions regained the lead just before halftime when Rourke connected with Cottoy for a 15-yard score, while limiting Hamilton to just 60 net yards in the opening half.
The third quarter turned into an offensive showcase:
Robinson and Bridges scored for Hamilton, Butler answered for BC, and special teams stole the spotlight when Seven McGee broke free for an 82-yard return, setting up Masoli’s rushing TD and a two-point conversion by Riley Pickett.
Late in regulation, the kickers traded blows – Whyte and Liegghio swapping leads – before Rourke fired a 16-yard touchdown pass to Butler with just 38 seconds left to make it 38–35. But Mitchell marched the Ticats into range, allowing Liegghio to tie it at 38–38 and force overtime.
The rest was history:
Hamilton’s fumble, Whyte’s composure, and the Lions walking away from Ontario with a hard-fought win.

The Tiger-Cats travel to Regina to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on August 16, while the Lions return home to host the Montreal Alouettes the same day.
