OXFORD, Miss. – Le conte de fées continue pour Trinidad Chambliss. Le quarterback transféré de Division II a encore brillé samedi, menant Ole Miss à une victoire de prestige 24–19 contre LSU, numéro 4 du pays, devant 67 737 spectateurs au Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Chambliss a lancé pour 314 yards (23/39, 1 TD, 1 INT) et ajouté 71 yards au sol, signant ainsi son troisième match consécutif à plus de 300 yards.
Une attaque équilibrée et décisive
Ole Miss a dominé la rencontre en accumulant 484 yards totaux contre seulement 256 pour LSU. Le duo au sol Kewan Lacy (23 courses, 87 yards, 1 TD) et Logan Diggs (8 yards, 1 TD) a complété le travail d’un Chambliss inspiré.
Le receveur Cayden Lee (4 réceptions, 70 yards, 1 TD) et le tight end Dae’Quan Wright (4 rec, 66 yards) ont été ses cibles de choix. L’action clé est venue dans les dernières minutes : sur une 4e tentative, Chambliss a trouvé Wright pour un premier down qui a permis aux Rebels de consommer le chrono et d’empêcher tout retour des Tigers.
LSU limité et sanctionné
En face, LSU a souffert. Le jeu au sol n’a produit que 59 yards (22 courses), avec Harlem Berry comme meilleur coureur (22 yards, 1 TD). Forcé de tout porter, Garrett Nussmeier (21/34, 197 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) n’a jamais trouvé son rythme.
Les Tigers ont aussi payé cher leurs erreurs : 7 pénalités pour 78 yards, contre 14 pour 109 côté Ole Miss, mais dans des moments moins décisifs. Malgré deux field goals de Damian Ramos (40 et 48 yards) et un dernier sursaut offensif dans le 4e quart, la conversion à deux points de Ju’Juan Johnson a été stoppée par la défense des Rebels.
La défense rebelle tient le choc
Le coordinateur défensif Pete Golding a vu son unité livrer une prestation solide après un début difficile. Suntarine Perkins (7 plaquages) et Wydeet Williams Jr. (1 interception) ont contenu LSU dans les moments critiques.
Ole Miss a terminé avec 28 first downs contre 16 pour LSU et a largement dominé la possession (32:22 contre 27:38).
Et maintenant ?
Avec ce succès, Ole Miss reste invaincu (5-0, 3-0 SEC) et s’impose comme un sérieux candidat dans la conférence. Les Rebels bénéficieront d’une semaine de repos avant de recevoir Washington State le 11 octobre.
Pour LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC), ce premier revers de la saison met en lumière une attaque trop déséquilibrée. Brian Kelly et ses joueurs tenteront de se relancer face à South Carolina le 11 octobre, également après leur bye week.
Chambliss, lui, continue de faire rêver Oxford : « Je suis le même gars qu’en mai, un bosseur qui veut juste jouer, s’amuser et gagner. »

OXFORD, Miss. – The fairy tale continues for Trinidad Chambliss. The Division II transfer once again shined on Saturday, leading Ole Miss to a prestigious 24–19 victory over No. 4 LSU in front of 67,737 fans at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Chambliss threw for 314 yards (23/39, 1 TD, 1 INT) and added 71 rushing yards, marking his third straight game with more than 300 yards.
A balanced and decisive offense
Ole Miss controlled the game with 484 total yards compared to just 256 for LSU. Running backs Kewan Lacy (23 carries, 87 yards, 1 TD) and Logan Diggs (8 yards, 1 TD) complemented Chambliss’ inspired play.
Receiver Cayden Lee (4 receptions, 70 yards, 1 TD) and tight end Dae’Quan Wright (4 rec, 66 yards) were his go-to targets. The key moment came in the final minutes: on a 4th down, Chambliss found Wright for a first down that allowed the Rebels to run out the clock and prevent any LSU comeback.
LSU limited and penalized
On the other side, LSU struggled. The ground game produced only 59 yards on 22 carries, with Harlem Berry the top rusher (22 yards, 1 TD). Forced to carry the offense, Garrett Nussmeier (21/34, 197 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT) never found his rhythm.
The Tigers also hurt themselves with mistakes: 7 penalties for 78 yards, compared to 14 for 109 by Ole Miss, but in less costly moments. Despite two field goals from Damian Ramos (40 and 48 yards) and a late touchdown in the 4th quarter, Ju’Juan Johnson’s two-point attempt was stopped by the Rebel defense.
Rebel defense holds firm
Defensive coordinator Pete Golding saw his unit deliver a solid performance after a shaky start. Suntarine Perkins (7 tackles) and Wydeet Williams Jr. (1 interception) helped contain LSU in critical situations.
Ole Miss finished with 28 first downs to LSU’s 16 and largely controlled possession (32:22 vs. 27:38).
What’s next?
With this win, Ole Miss remains unbeaten (5-0, 3-0 SEC) and looks like a serious contender in the conference. The Rebels now head into a bye week before hosting Washington State on October 11.
For LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC), this first loss of the season highlighted an offense that remains too unbalanced. Brian Kelly and his team will look to bounce back against South Carolina on October 11, also after their bye.
Chambliss, meanwhile, continues to make Oxford dream: “I’m the same guy as in May, a hard worker who just wants to play, have fun and win.”
