À seulement 19 ans, Dominique Malonga continue de faire parler d’elle. La jeune pivot française des Seattle Storm, choisie en deuxième position de la draft WNBA 2025, a confirmé sa participation à la ligue Unrivaled pour la saison 2026. L’annonce a été faite jeudi par la ligue professionnelle féminine de basketball 3x3, qui s’apprête à entamer sa deuxième année d’existence.
Après une première saison prometteuse à Seattle, Malonga a rapidement démontré qu’elle appartenait déjà à la crème du circuit. En 42 rencontres, elle a compilé 7,7 points, 4,6 rebonds et 55 % de réussite au tir, le tout en seulement 14 minutes par match. Ses prestations constantes lui ont valu une place dans la WNBA All-Rookie Team, une distinction rare pour une joueuse de seulement 19 ans. En séries éliminatoires, elle a encore franchi un cap, affichant 8,7 points, 8,7 rebonds et 1,7 contre de moyenne en sortie de banc.
Son engagement avec Unrivaled intervient quelques jours après un épisode mouvementé en Turquie : le club de Fenerbahçe, avec lequel elle était sous contrat, a affirmé qu’elle avait « unilatéralement rompu son contrat sans motif valable », annonçant vouloir entreprendre des démarches légales. Malgré ce différend, Malonga pourra disputer la saison 3x3, la ligue Unrivaled ne nécessitant pas la lettre de libération FIBA requise pour les championnats européens.
Pour cette deuxième édition, Unrivaled élargit son format à huit équipes et accueille plusieurs nouvelles recrues prestigieuses, dont Aari McDonald (Indiana Fever) et Rebecca Allen (Chicago Sky). Certaines vedettes, comme A’ja Wilson et Caitlin Clark, feront en revanche de nouveau l’impasse cette année.
Le coup d’envoi sera donné le 5 janvier 2026, et Malonga y retrouvera une figure familière : Noelle Quinn, son ancienne entraîneuse à Seattle, qui dirigera désormais l’équipe BC Breeze dans la ligue.
