Les joueurs canadiens ne cessent d’affoler les universités au sud de la frontière. En 2025, pas moins de 276 joueurs canadiens évoluaient dans le football universitaire américain, toutes divisions confondues (NCAA FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III et NAIA).

Parmi eux, 192 évoluent en NCAA Division I FBS, et plus de 100 étaient présents dans les conférences Power 4, le plus haut niveau du football universitaire. La tendance est claire : le Canada n’est plus une périphérie du recrutement américain. Il en est devenu un vivier stratégique.

Dans le Top 20 de la draft CFL 2026, 19 prospects sur 20 sont passés par la NCAA. Le contingent canadien, en croissance constante saison après saison, confirme l’importance du développement national au plus haut niveau universitaire nord-américain.

La draft de la CFL aura lieu le 28 avril 2026, avec environ 74 sélections prévues. À deux mois de l’échéance, le portrait des meilleurs espoirs admissibles, établi par le Bureau de recrutement, révèle une classe dense, largement structurée par la qualité du jeu dans les tranchées.

Mesidor, symbole d’une génération

Le nom qui domine la cuvée demeure Akheem Mesidor, plaqueur défensif de Miami et natif d’Ottawa. Puissant, explosif et productif dans l’ACC, Mesidor incarne cette nouvelle vague canadienne solidement implantée dans les grandes conférences.

En 2025, il a signé 60 plaquages, 15.5 plaquages pour perte, 10.5 sacks et 4 fumbles provoqués, s’imposant comme l’un des défenseurs les plus productifs de l’ACC et obtenant une distinction All-ACC. En finale nationale du College Football Playoff face à Indiana, Mesidor a confirmé son statut en réussissant notamment deux sacks sur le lauréat du trophée Heisman, Fernando Mendoza.

À Rutgers, Jett Elad (77 tackles, 2 interceptions en 2025) et Dariel Djabome (67 tackles, 2 sacks, 2 forced fumbles) ont porté la défense en Big Ten.

Seul tight end du Top 20, Rohan Jones (Arkansas) s’est illustré dans la SEC avec 19 receptions, 519 yards et 4 touchdowns, affichant une moyenne de 27.3 yards par catch.

Du côté d’Hawaii, Nick Cenacle a conclu la saison avec 19 receptions, 519 yards et 4 touchdowns, incluant le touchdown gagnant de 22 yards dans les dernières secondes du Hawaiʻi Bowl 2025.

U SPORTS toujours présent

Émeric Boutin (Laval) est le seul joueur du Top 20 à avoir évolué exclusivement au Canada cette saison.

Canadian players continue to draw major attention south of the border. In 2025, no fewer than 276 Canadians were competing in American college football across all divisions including NCAA FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III and NAIA.

Among them, 192 were playing in NCAA Division I FBS, and more than 100 were competing in Power 4 conferences, the highest level of college football. The trend is clear. Canada is no longer on the periphery of American recruiting. It has become a strategic talent pool.

Within the Top 20 prospects for the 2026 CFL Draft, 19 out of 20 have passed through the NCAA. The Canadian contingent, growing steadily year after year, confirms the increasing importance of national development at the highest levels of North American college football.

The 2026 CFL Draft will take place on April 28, 2026, with approximately 74 selections expected. Two months out, the latest rankings compiled by the Scouting Bureau, composed of league scouts, player personnel directors and general managers from the nine clubs, reveal a deep class built around line play.

Mesidor, the symbol of a generation

The name leading the class remains Akheem Mesidor, a defensive lineman from Miami and a native of Ottawa. Powerful, explosive and productive in the ACC, Mesidor embodies this new Canadian wave firmly established within major conferences.

In 2025, he recorded 60 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks and four forced fumbles, earning All ACC recognition. Mesidor concluded his season by appearing in the College Football Playoff National Championship against Indiana.
