Las Vegas, 8 août 2025 – Malgré une remontée spectaculaire et une performance historique de la rookie Dominique Malonga, le Seattle Storm a cédé face aux doubles championnes en titre, les Las Vegas Aces, sur le score de 90-86 au Michelob Ultra Arena.
Dominique Malonga, 19 ans, a signé la meilleure prestation de sa jeune carrière avec un double-double à 22 points et 12 rebonds, devenant la première rookie de l’histoire de la WNBA à atteindre ces chiffres en sortie de banc. En seulement 25 minutes, la pivot de 2,00 m a converti 8 de ses 11 tirs, surpassant ses records précédents (14 points, 11 rebonds) établis le 24 juillet à Chicago.
« La confiance vient avec les minutes et les répétitions, » confiait-elle après la rencontre. « Mes coaches me font de plus en plus confiance, et je sais ce que je peux apporter : finir près du cercle, bien défendre, poser de bons écrans et dominer au rebond. »
Le Storm, mené de 19 points (65-46) à trois minutes de la fin du troisième quart, a enclenché une incroyable série de 26-8 pour revenir à hauteur. Malonga a égalisé à 75-75 sur un panier plus faute à un peu plus de cinq minutes du terme, mais les Aces, portées par A’ja Wilson (29 points, 12 rebonds) et Jackie Young (26 points), ont gardé l’avantage dans le money-time.
Pour Seattle, cinq joueuses ont atteint la barre des 10 points : Erica Wheeler (16 pts), Brittney Sykes (14 pts, 6 passes) pour sa première sous le maillot du Storm, Gabby Williams (14 pts, 4 passes), et Nneka Ogwumike (12 pts, 9 rebonds). Sykes, arrivée mardi dans un échange, n’a eu besoin que d’un entraînement pour trouver ses marques.
« Elle apporte de l’explosivité vers le cercle et sait initier notre jeu offensif, » saluait la coach Noelle Quinn. « Avec plus de temps, elle va nous aider encore davantage. »
Seattle a dominé la peinture après la pause (30-12) et a enregistré un sixième match consécutif à 20 passes décisives ou plus (21). Mais malgré une adresse de 53 % dans le dernier quart, les Aces ont conservé leur avance pour infliger au Storm une nouvelle défaite serrée, la quatrième consécutive.

Las Vegas, August 8, 2025 – Rookie center Dominique Malonga delivered the best game of her young career, but the Seattle Storm’s furious rally came up short in a 90-86 loss to the reigning champion Las Vegas Aces at Michelob Ultra Arena.
The 6-foot-6 Malonga posted a historic double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds in just 25 minutes off the bench, becoming the first rookie in WNBA history to record at least 20 points and 12 boards as a reserve. She shot an efficient 8-for-11 from the field, eclipsing her previous career highs of 14 points and 11 rebounds set on July 24 in Chicago.
“Confidence comes with minutes and reps,” she said postgame. “My coaches trust me more and more. I just focus on what I do best — finishing in the paint, rebounding, setting good screens — and it’s paying off.”
Seattle trailed 65-46 with just over three minutes left in the third quarter but mounted a 26-8 run that carried into the fourth. Malonga tied the game at 75-75 with a three-point play midway through the period, but Las Vegas, behind A’ja Wilson (29 points, 12 rebounds) and Jackie Young (26 points), held on in the final minutes.
Five Storm players scored in double figures: Erica Wheeler (16 points), Brittney Sykes (14 points, 6 assists) in her Seattle debut, Gabby Williams (14 points, 4 assists), and Nneka Ogwumike (12 points, 9 rebounds). Sykes, acquired in a trade on Tuesday, needed only one practice to make an impact.
“She brings explosiveness to the rim and can initiate our offense,” said head coach Noelle Quinn. “She picked things up quickly and will continue to help us.”
The Storm dominated the paint in the second half (30-12) and recorded their sixth straight game with 20+ assists (21 total). Despite shooting 53% in the fourth quarter, Seattle couldn’t quite close the gap, with the Aces holding on for the win.
